The TRAVERS PhD school in biomedical research

TRAVERS is the PhD school in biomedical, patient-related translational research in Tromsø. The PhD school has been founded as a collaboration between various clinical departments and the clinical research centre at the University Hospital North Norway and the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Health Faculty of the University of Tromsø.

The profile of Travers

Travers is housing a cluster of research groups and scientists doing biomedical research.

This PhD school is based on three common steps in the course of our PhD program.

Step one is based on the courses in scientific theory, the Laws of Health Research, the used of patient registries and the theoretical aspects of using randomized controlled trials.

Step two is based on the course “Biotechnology for clinicians”. Important techniques and analyses are discussed and demonstrated.

Step three will be the research project proper, for most of the candidates integrated in the ongoing projects in one of our research groups.

The Travers seminars

These are important lectures held regularly by the groups affiliated scientists or by distinguished quest lecturers. The great ideas are born in the seminars and nourished in the research groups and among the students!

The analytical portfolio

Travers consists of research groups with various approaches to clinically motivated research questions. As most of our analyses are based on general biological and biotechnological principles, they are of common interest. Our aim is to develope a Travers Catalog of techniques mastered by our own research groups, the various Tromsø core facilities and our national and international collaborators. We appreciate if you share your skills and experiences!
