DNV appointed risk adviser for patient safety

The U.K. National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) is a high-profile public sector body, recently established to improve patient safety in the National Health Service (NHS).

A major factor in winning this prestigious assignment was DNV’s integrated approach, combining the corporate and strategic risk agendas with a proven track record in safety and human factors across a range of safety- critical industries.

The appointment is initially for six months, but might be extended further. Richard Flatman at the London office heads the DNV team, which will be working with and reporting directly to the NPSA Board on a broad range of non-financial risk issues.

Food safety

After the Norwegian authorities revealed breaches of regulations in the Norwegian grocery store chain Meny, DNV Consulting was called upon to help Meny. DNV has established the causes of the breaches and will, together with Meny, work to put forward improvement measures.

During the project, DNV Consulting Norway investigated more than 40 Norwegian food shops. DNV delivered its report in January 2003 and the conclusions are clear and can be summarised as follows: The lack of a system that the management could use to monitor food safety in the shops contributed to a lack of focus in the shops, thus preventing good decisions from the management.

Based on the analyses, DNV will now start on the work of preparing specific measures together with Meny.
