DNV Class at Finnish yards
December 2002: Contracts were signed for two large passenger ships to be built to DNV class at Finnish yards.
Aker Finnyards and Birka Line have signed a contract for the building of a 1,800- passenger cruise vessel. The EUR 155 million vessel, which will be delivered in the autumn of 2004, comprises 1,200 man-years of work for the yard.
The 177 m long and 28 m wide cruiser can, with good reason, be called the most environmentally friendly vessel on the Baltic Sea - it complies with two very new classification standards:DNV`s Clean Class standard, which defines several environmental solutions for ship structures, and DNV’s Comfort Class standard, which ensures a noiseless and vibration-free environment for the passengers.
Hong Kong: Wallem certified to ISO 14001 by DNV
Wallem is a Hong Kong based ship- management company, with over 120 vessels under full technical management. Wallem Shipmanagement is believed to be the first company in Asia to attain this certification for tankers.
To attain the ISO14001 certification, a company must have policy commitments to legal compliance, pollution prevention and a programme of on-going improvements, with the basic minimum performance standard being full compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
