UK's Southern North Sea: Risk Based Inspection
DNV's Risk Based Inspection project at
Conoco UK's Southern North Sea LOGGS and
Viking Gas installations succeeded in achieving
enhanced lifecycle planning and budget
control, demonstrable risk management, and
immediate cost savings in reduced inspection
work for topside process and utility systems.
The immediate cost savings to Conoco were of US $110,000 through a reduction in planned work, and minimised lost gas production in the order of 426MMSCF, worth US $1.6 million through reducing shutdown activity.
From a lifecycle perspective, the result supported Conoco's goals of meeting contractual and opportunistic production targets, maximising field asset life and improving understanding of the risk drivers.
Safety Auditing and Risk Analysis
Koch’s Bend refinery is located in upstate Minnesota. This is a very challenging environment exposed to severe winter conditions and hot summers. The refinery processes crude oil and receives most of its feedstock (crude oil) by pipeline from the Great Lakes area.
DNV delivers safety auditing, ISRS, IERS, IQRS and risk analysis to the Koch’s Pine Bend refinery. Downstream industries face enormous pressures to improve margins and reduce operating costs. The challenge therefore is to comply with stringent compliance and at the same time ensure the refinery makes money.
