- A Scholarship Programme for Students from Eastern Europe and Developing Countries
This scholarship programme for higher education in Norway has been offered to students from Eastern Europe and developing countries since 1994. The scholarships are part of the Norwegian government aid programme which covers all expenses for a 10-month academic year.
Each year the universities and some colleges are awarded a quota of financial grants for students from countries in these regions to study within specific programmes taught in English. Some students may also be admitted to certain professional programmes taught in Norwegian. Many of the grants awarded go to participants in exchange schemes in collaboration with institutions in Eastern Europe and developing countries. In general, most courses within this scholarship programme are at graduate level, mainly those leading to a Master's degree. The minimum requirement for admission to these courses is usually a Bachelor's degree of at least three years’ duration or its equivalent. The Quota Scheme also provides grants for a smaller number of graduate and research students who are accepted for tutored research in fields where no English language programmes exist. Such admission depends largely on the level of interest within the specific academic department and the extent to which established contacts exist.
AAUC, however, does not offer any postgraduate study programmes at present and therefore only admit quota students on our Bachelor programmes (3 years).
Financial support is administered by the State Educational Loan Fund and initially granted on the same basis as to Norwegian students, i.e. as a combination of grants and loans. When the study programme has been completed and the student returns home, the loan portion can under certain conditions be converted into a grant, thus releasing the student from repayment obligations.
