The programme at the Faculty of Nursing is also one of the main programmes for research at the Sør-Trøndelag University College. It is part of a unique multidisciplinary psychosomatic research activity under development in the middle part of Norway on university, college and hospital; Psycho-Somatic Research Group (PSRG).
The aim is to make the region a significant research agent within this field. The group is associated with equivalent research groups in Australia, Poland, Finland, Hungary and Papua New Guinea. More details on: www.psykosomatikk.no
The traditional bio-medical model, which has dominated the health care system until recently, is too limited facing a modern panorama of illness and disease, and is being replaced by a more holistic model; Psychosomatic research is research on the interplay between physiological, psychological, social and spiritual factors in the development of health and disease. Women and children/adolescents are underrepresented in research. More knowledge is asked for within several disciplines, corresponding to the focus on women and children by WHO. We want to contribute to the growth of this body of knowledge in order to implement a holistic health care to these groups.
