Cybernetics – Advanced EE4107

Prerequisites

Differential equations. Complex numbers. Students are expected to take the course Cybernetics Foundation Course (EE3107) concurrently, or have equivalent knowledge from other sources.

Course Objectives

Students will gain knowledge about system theories for dynamic systems and control systems, as well as knowledge about, and skills in, the use of PLC systems.

Course Description

Automation: Logic and sequential control. Implementation and automation of PLC systems (Programmable Logic Controllers) and PAC systems (Programmable Automation Controllers).

System theory: Dynamic analysis of time-continuous systems – transfer-function models. Frequency response analysis, including signal filtration. Stability analysis. Transfer-function based tuning of PID controllers. Analysis of control systems.

Tools: PC with LabVIEW and I/O-equipment. Simatic PLC.

Learning Methods

Lectures. Self-study. Calculation exercises. PC exercises. Project assignments in the form of lab and simulation assignments which will be carried out in groups and/or individually.

Assessment Methods

Individual written final examination counts for 70% of the final grade. Project assignments count 30%. Both the written examination and each of the project assignments must receive passing marks in order to receive a higher grade than F.
