A strategy process has been initiated at the IME Faculty. The first aim is to develop views on what our technical world will look like in 2020. We concentrate on our own specialities: ICT, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering.

Preliminary results will be presented at an NTNU-internal conference Monday/Tuesday April 19-20, 2004. The conference is primarily for scientists and PhD students at IME. Representatives from industry and public administration will also be invited. In case of lack of space priority will be given to permanent NTNU-employees and to external invitees. Please register through the INFOSAM2020 web-pages a.s.a.p. In order to give us an indication of interest, so that we can acquire larger conference rooms if needed. All documentation will be in English due to the international character of the Faculty.
Presently 14 working groups analyse various aspects of this large technical-scientific area. All working groups will present their results at the INFOSAM-conference. After the conference we will integrate the different proposals into one document, which will serve as a basis for discussions with Norwegian industry and public administration aimed at finding agreement on priorities to be given to the profile of future research and teaching at IME. We plan the process to lead to a strategy during the spring of 2005.
The technical-scientific area is large. We look at the future applications of IME's generic knowledge, and we look at how the generic knowledge itself will develop over the next 15 years. We have not managed to cover all of the relevant disciplines and application areas, even with 14 working groups.
