Ensuring student welfare
How can we ensure excellent welfare services for students? NTNU will have one common student welfare organization, and on 14 August the proposal for a solution will be distributed for comments.
On 1 January 2016, the merger between NTNU and the university colleges in Ålesund, Gjøvik and Sør-Trøndelag will take effect. Norway's Ministry of Education and Research has emphasized that the new university must have a unified student welfare organization from this date.
Joint working group
The student welfare associations in Trondheim, the county of Oppland, and the Sunnmøre district in western Norway have established a joint working group to assess the best way to organize student welfare services for the new university.
Aim to ensure good future services
Today, the student welfare association for students in Ålesund and Volda is Studentsamskipnaden for Sunnmøre (SfS). Students in Gjøvik and Lillehammer are served by Studentsamskipnaden for Oppland (SOPP), while students at the current NTNU and Sør-Trøndelag University College are gathered at Studentsamskipnaden i Trondheim (SiT).
The working group consists of the chairs of the boards and the directors of the three student welfare associations involved. The objective of their work is to ensure good welfare services in the future for students at NTNU, whether they are based in Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund, or in Volda and Lillehammer.
To be distributed for comments on 14 August
The working group will prepare a report describing various models for the organization of welfare services at NTNU. The report is to be distributed for consultation on 14 August. The deadline for comments is 26 August. The boards of the three student welfare associations will submit a recommendation to the Ministry of Education and Research in mid-September. The Ministry will then consider the new organizational structure for student welfare services, which will take effect from 1 January 2016.
