Learning outcome
Knowledge:
Architecture 2 is a continuation of Architecture 1 with its focus on the practical and theoretical basis of architecture.Main themes: Constructions and structural connections. Main material is wood.Form as result of the relationship and discussion between Place, Space, Tectonic/Structure and material and of course Use/ Function.
Skills and practice in:
Focus on following topics-
Place-Registering, measuring and communicating information and qualities from an urban landscape.
Tectonic- constructions in wood.
Architectonic expression- reflections around choises of form.
Function- challenging conventions of use.
Scale- as a tool both for developing ideas and for presentation.
Values and ways of working- Develop the ability both to cooperate with other students and to make individual statements as a fundamental in the creative process.
Complexity- challenging both in practical exercise and process and choises in use of methodes.
General knowledge:
The students will be exposed to relevant references concerning basic architectural topics both in the tutorial situation as well as in lectures.
Learning methods and activities
Practical part1:FOCUS ON CONSTRUCTION and visual expression -Group and individual project assignments.
Practical part3:FOCUS ON Architectural relations and complexity-suggestions in an urban situation; group project assignments.
Practical part 2: Architectural theory and history- Lectures. Analyses of architectural literature.Text-writing. Excursion: A journey where the sketch-book will the most important tool. How to collect information a journey? Registration, measuring and presentation of existing buildings and-/ or urban spaces as important issues.
Using notions as place, use, space and tectonic as basis for discussion and explorations. Discussing expression as an end result of conscious values.
The use of the relevant tools provided in the different stages in a projects development. Developing and realizing architectural ideas in text, drawings and model. Emphasize on analog drawings and models as tools for development. The basic conventions in drawing.
Basic skills related to digital imaging tools, photography, layout, vector graphics drawing and 3D modeling program.
