A number of central data collections are documented on these pages. It will also eventually be possible to search in variables in the data collections. Statistics Norway has many more data collections; more details of these are available on Statistics Norway’s website under Subject overview. If you have any questions regarding what Statistics Norway can offer with regard to data, and you can’t find the relevant information on our website, please contact us.
Below is a provisional (September 2005) overview of the data collections that are most used for research purposes. A number of variables can be found in several data collections. Click on the title to view more information on the relevant data collection, i.e. brief details on production, content and quality. Included here are details of units, population, errors or uncertainties, relevance and consistency in the data material.
This version enables users to obtain an overview of the variables (including definitions of each variable) for the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises, the Income Register for Persons and Families, and the Population and Housing Census 2001. This will eventually be available for all of the data collections below. In the longer term, the list of variables will enable users to specify data orders for individual data collections.
Researchers must apply to the register owner’s executive body for permission to use data that does not belong to Statistics Norway. A copy of the application is sent to Statistics Norway where Statistics Norway is responsible for supplying the data.
