Application procedure for master's programmes for applicants residing in Norway and citizens of the Nordic countries

Application procedure for applicants with a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway and citizens of the Nordic countries.

1. What would you like to study?

UiO offers 50 Master's programmes taught entirely in English and many more taught in Norwegian.

Intakes are once or twice a year. You can apply for up to three prioritized programmes.

2. Are you qualified?

Does your academic background meet the admission requirements? You should thoroughly research prospective programmes and their specific admission requirements.

3. Preparing your application

Make sure that you have all the required documents ready, and that they are in the correct format (pdf).

Are you preparing for an English language test?

Your TOEFL test scores must be sent directly from ETS, this often takes up to several weeks. IELTS and TOEFL test dates fill up quickly. Therefore be sure to schedule your test in time for the results to reach us within the application deadline.

Are you completing your degree in the application semester?

If you are finishing your bachelor's degree in the application semester you must upload your final transcripts by 8 December for studies starting in January, or 1 July for studies starting in August.

Remember to upload both transcript and a list of the courses you are registered for this semester with the expected date for completion.

4. Registering your application

When you have checked that you are qualified (as mentioned in step 2), you can register your application through SøknadsWeb within

  • 15 April for studies starting in August
  • 15 October for studies starting in January
  • 1 March for early reply for studies starting in August

All supporting documents must reach us within the application deadline. Your application will be considered invalid if you have not uploaded any supporting documents within the deadline. Invalid applications will not be processed.

5. Reprioritize your alternatives

You may reprioritize your three programmes until

  • 1 July for studies starting in August
  • 8 December for studies starting in January

If you are offered admission to your first priority you will not be offered admission to your second priority.

6. Getting your application results

You will receive your application results within

  • 7 July for studies starting in August
  • December for studies starting in January.

When the admission results are ready you will be notified through your registered e-mail address. You will then be able to see the result of your application in SøknadsWeb. If you are offered admission to a study programme, you will be given a short deadline to respond.

7. Supplementary Admission

On 22 July, study programmes that have unfilled places will offer these places to applicants who are on the waiting list. You must reply to an eventual offer by 28 July.

In the event that there are still unfilled study places after the first supplementary admission, an additional supplementary round of admissions will be held on 5 August.

Eventual offers of a study place from the second supplementary admission must be accepted by 9 August.
