This track aims to present the design of digital systems, artefacts and texts as a multi-disciplinary field of research. We particularly focus on use and user participation as an important part of the design process. Utilizing contemporary technologies means to extend the concept of information systems to information spaces. The notion of information space invites a multiplicity of disciplines to explore the design process and the design result. How would prospective information users do their activities if they could move freely in a space? How do various disciplines contribute to or challenge design of information spaces? Digital technologies also enable a wider range of narratives and symbolic forms. Can we narrate doubts and dilemmas, alternatives and aliases?

Design
Organisers: Tone Bratteteig and Gunnar LiestølSession 1: A multidisciplinary approach to design research
Session 2: Designing digital information spaces
Session 3: Digital stories
Learning across sites
Organisers: Sten Ludvigsen and Andreas Lund
The themes and questions we want to address in this track are all related to the use of ICT in educational settings.
- What is required of learning in order to prepare people to come to terms with, take part in and ultimately improve life in the knowledge society?
- What does the rapid specialization in the society mean for educational institutions?
- How is knowledge accumulated and transformed in different settings and institutions, and what role does ICT plays?
- What types of knowledge becomes relevant in new types of ITC rich practices?
In this track we particular we are inviting contributions on theoretical and empirical aspects on expansive learning, productive learning interactions, the role of epistemic artifacts, and the relations between individual and collective knowledge advancement. Methodologically we want to address such issues on several levels, from classrooms to institutions and policy levels as well as multilevel approaches.
Session 1: Institutional change in ICT in the educational sector
Session 2: New tools for learning; wikis and blogs as part of classroom settings
Session 3: New learning environments; simulations, visualizations and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Working Life
Organisers: Leif Lahn, Anne Moen and Anders Mørch
This track addresses the socio-technical and cultural transformations in working life that make learning the “new form of labour” – and the construction of learning environments in these contexts. It will also focus on participatory design for work integrated learning environments. We invite both theoretical and empirical contributions to these fields.
Session 1: Working life changes and digital competences
Session 2: Work-integrated learning environments
Session 3: Participative design in working life contexts
Media Convergence
Main focus: Transformations in digital genres, regimes and markets
Organisers: Terje Rasmussen and Ole Hanseth
This track invites to discuss how the technological development of the net is affected by new demands and patterns of use. In what ways do information and communication organize itself in new Internet-based media like webcasting, weblogs and mobile communication? The wide varieties of alternative modes of regulations and regimes, such as Open Source and Creative commons will be in focus. Also the dynamics of competition and technological change in the global media market are addressed.
Session 1: Migrations and cross-overs in genres and communication in digital media
Session 2: New regimes for the net: governance and copyright
Session 3: Global market in transition
Authorithy and Literacy
Main focus: Authorship and agency in digital media
Organisers: Knut Lundby and Ola Erstad
This track relates to the transformations in social practices by convergence of the offline and the online made possible with social software. The track further focuses the competences that are nurtured with such practices. It also refers to the various ways of digital storytelling and participation that develop with new media and ICTs. What does this mean for patterns of authority and literacy? How do new forms of digital literacy shape new forms of authority? How is authority based in digital competence and literacy acted out and by whom?
Session 1: Authorship and authority with digital media
Session 2: Authority and participation with digital storytelling
Session 3: Transformations in media literacy and agency
