Processing and Transport
Industrial Process Engineering group at Department of Energy
and Process Engineering
The activities related to natural gas and hydrogen in this group
comprise multiphase transport, gas pipelines, natural gas hydrates,
refrigeration technology, LNG, gas processing and control and process
integration.
The research team consists of 6 professors (Arne Bredesen, Geir
Owren, Truls Gundersen, Ole Jørgen Nydal, Jostein Pettersen,
Tor Ytrehus, and Otto Sønju), 1 post.doc. and 18 doctorate
students.
The group has adjunct professors working related to natural gas
technology (Hans Jørgen Dahl, Arne Olav Fredheim and Per
Fuchs).
The group has access to major laboratory facilities at both NTNU
and SINTEF. The laboratories are available for contract research
projects and for doctoral studies on a shared basis. The available
laboratories include:
- SINTEF Multiphase Flow Laboratory (SIMLab Research infrastructure)
- SINTEF Gas Hydrate Laboratory
- NTNU/SINTEF Refrigeration Laboratory
- NTNU Multiphase Flow Laboratory
The natural gas related research programs the team members participate
in are:
- NTNU Natural Gas Research Center,
- Multiphase Transport,
- Petronics,
- PLR (pressure Loss Reduction in Gas Pipelines)
- PROST
The yearly budget has been about 10.0MNOK per year.
The group has one Marie Curie Training Site (MPSite) within multiphase
flow.
The research activities are made in close collaboration with SINTEF
Energy Research and SINTEF Petroleum Research
Visualization and virtual reality at Department of Computer
and Information Science
This research is performed at Department of Computer and Information
Science partly in cooperation with Department of Petroleum Engineering
and Applied Geophysics, Department of Energy and Process Engineering
and Statoil.
The goals are the use of a spatial sound field giving additional
dimensions in at 3D virtual environment (the RAVE) and stereoscopic
front projection on a highly curved screen (conCAVE)
The goals are of general applicability but they are worked on in
an oil and gas production setting.
These projects are led by asst. professor Torbjørn Hallgren.
Partners are professor Jon Kleppe and professor Ole Jørgen
Nydal. The projects were started recently.
Another project led by assoc.professor II Bjørn Sæther
aims at integrating the Svalsim 3D terrain simulator of Svalbard
with GPS navigation data for the purpose of field applications.
Partner is Statoil.
