Technology platforms MIC and PROBE are available to any and all Norwegian higher education institutions, at the same beneficial terms of use.

MIC and PROBE is organized as core facilities. The idea behind the core facility concept is to make sophisticated scientific equipment and highly specialized personnel available to a wide range of users. In turn, core facility users contribute financially to operational expenses through paying a set fee for services rendered.

The core facilities also conduct independent research and development within their respective scientific areas, and the goal is to evolve these into leaders of their fields, thus making it more attractive for research environments to employ core facility services versus running their own equipment park
