National Science Week (Forskningsdagene)
National Science Week is a nationwide annual festival organised by the Research Council of Norway.
In Bergen, National Science Week is a collaborative effort by many of the city's central research institutions. UiB is the host for "National Science Week in Bergen", and is the biggest contributor to the week-long festival.
National Science Week takes place at the end of September every year. The festival helps to communicate research in several different arenas. These are some of them:
Research Grand Prix – for PhD candidates
PhD candidates from all over Bergen compete to present their research on a stage. This gives them a unique opportunity to develop their communications skills! The competition is held during National Science Week. The winner goes on to a national final. Among other things, the participants receive individual coaching in how they can best present their research in just a few minutes, and what they need to do to capture their audience, as well as advice about media contact.
Lectures and debates
The lecture and debate programme is aimed at young people and adults. Through actual lectures, discussions and debates in an informal setting, researchers meet the general public and show where research fits in the public debate.
Young Science Week (Forskningsdagene UNG)
This is a concept in which young people can take part in research stations, workshops, lectures and shows. Many UiB researchers have contributed to this event.
Science Fair
At the Science Fair, anyone of a curious disposition, no matter what their age, gets the chance to join enthusiastic researchers from several dozen research groups in Bergen, to try, taste, ask, discuss, wonder and be surprised.
Add your own events to the festival week
All academic groups are invited to add more events to the festival period. Notify us if you have an event that you would like included in the festival programme!
