Academic institutions are the backbones of society, providing knowledge and educating young people. Global development challenges affect us all.
As inequalities continue to grow, it is the responsibility of advanced economies and their academic institutions to share their resources and research results. The Bergen academic milieu is committed to rethink the implications of Norway’s position in the world today, emphasizing themes and research that our institutions are already engaged with.
The University of Bergen´s Strategic Plan for 2011-2015 prioritizes high quality research education with emphasis on developing and strengthening thematic areas, across disciplines, to meet global challenges.
Climate and environmental changes, health challenges, new diseases, pervasive poverty, and marginalization of certain groups and regions, call for interdisciplinary spaces for debate, dialogue and joint learning.
Goals
- To offer high quality disciplinary, interdisciplinary and problem oriented research-based education to doctoral students and junior researchers from all over the world.
- To form an international platform for discussion and dissemination of new perspectives on key global challenges.
The BSRS is organised in parallell courses on PhD level, tied together by joint lectures by high-profile keynote speakers, plenary discussions, and activities that promote social activities. In addition to the doctoral courses, a set of plenary sessions and public meetings will reach out to the wider community.
Bergen Summer Research School is a joint venture under the leadership of the University of Bergen with the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, Bergen University College, Chr. Michelsen Institute and Uni Research.
The Bergen Summer Research School is organised by UiB Global.
