Login

Campus

If you are located on campus, just use ssh to connect to the host in question.

Outside Campus

To login into the system outside campus, use ssh with login.phys.ntnu.no as login host.

Access Linux Files From Windows

In order to get access to your files on a Windows host you have to login to the WIN-NTNU-NO domain. You must the tool Map Network Drive, use anne.phys.ntnu.no as host. Like this: \\anne.phys.ntnu.no\<username>

Change <username> to your username.

Mail

If you want to read mail on the Linuxsystem, forward your mail to <username>@tf.phys.ntnu.no. Your mailbox is the available in the file

/var/spool/mail/<username>

Configs for mail clients

IMAP server: anne.phys.ntnu.no SMTP server: anne.phys.ntnu.no or mailgw.ntnu.no

Webmail

Mail access by browser is available at this address: http://webmail.phys.ntnu.no/

Spam

We are using SpamAssassin: http://spamassassin.apache.org/ as spamfilter. It’s not enabled by default. Create a file called .procmailrc in your home directory with the following contents to let SpamAssasin to the spam filtering.

Virus

All mail (incoming and outgoing) is automatically scanned for virus. The software used for this task ClamAV

Compilers

Commercial compilers

Portland Group

Currently we have a commercial f77 and f90 compiler from Portland Group http://www.pgroup.com/ The compiler supports 32 and 64 bits applications. The OS on the host is used to determine if 32 or 64 bits version is used. To force 32 or 64 bits, use the -32 or -64 options.

pgf90 This is the Fortran 90 and Fortran 95 compiler from Portland

g77 The Fortran 77 compiler

pgcc The C compiler

pgCC The C++ compiler

Intel Compiler

This is free license compiler from Intel http://www.intel.com/software/products/noncom/. Only Fortran 90 at the moment, the compiler is called ifort.

Free compilers

Several free compilers is available, most of the these comes from hte GNU Compiler Collection: gcc C compiler g++ C++ compiler f77 Fortran 77 compiler gfortran Fortran 77, and Fortran 90 compiler javac Java compiler

Known problems

Once in a while the print queue go wild, printing multiple copies. Stop the print in question by pulling out paper tray, then call help.

Checking status

From the command line use the command:

 lpstat -t

Or point your webbrowser to this address CUPS.

PS and PDF in Linux

To merge two PDF files use the following command:

gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=finished.pdf file1.pdf file2.pdf

Certificates

To encrypt network traffic a standard called SSL is used. A integral part of this technology is digital certificates. All certificates on the system is signed by a root certificate available at this web address: Root CA, to install it just visit the link. It’s also available in the filesystem:

/cluster/cert/cacert.der
