Research
Current projects are focused in three main areas.
Bioinformatics:
The research aims at building a bioinformatics tool called ENVISION for identification, analysis, visualisation and development of macromolecules of industrial and biotechnological importance. This will be achieved by developing methods and algorithms for identification of structural descriptors for functional and biophysical properties of proteins, which would be stored in a corresponding structural descriptor database. The Envision software package aims to help in the comparison, coordination, visualization, storage, and exploration of biological data.

Adaptation of enzymes
Research involves studying the basic molecular features of cold and salt adapted enzymes including relationships between structure and catalytic efficiency/stability. Cold adapted enzymes are often characterised by increased catalytic efficiency and decreased temperature stability compared to their mesophilic and thermophilic counterparts. The reduced stability is probably caused by a more flexible structure, and is explained by the need for rapid conformational changes during catalysis at low temperatures.

Vibrio salmonicida genome project
The aim of the project is to sequence the whole genome (including plasmids) and use Vibrio salmonicida as a model system for understanding the mechanisms involved in quorum sensing and virulence.
