Training for NWERC 2006
Pizza sponsor! Towards NWERC 2006 in Stockholm in November, we will arrange some more training sessions. These will be open for everyone, and be in the same style as the ones you have seen before. There will be easy, medium and hard problems. You are very welcome to join, also if you have never tried this type of programming contest before. All you need is basic programming skills, and this is a great chance to improve them.
Program fall 2006
Pizza sponsor!
Change in program: During the first months of 2006 we will provide a program for those who want to work on their problem solving and programming skills. As usual, we want to offer something for everyone: From those who have just finished their first programming course to the mad skill code monkeys. Our program leads up to the Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC), also known as "NM i programmering". Following our program is not at all a requirement for competing in NCPC, and vice versa. NCPC is an informal contest which anyone can join. In the training sessions we will give problem sets similar to those given in programming contests such as NCPC. There will always be both easy, medium and hard problems. We will help those who need it, and go through some problems afterwards if requested. In the tutorial sessions, we will use existing online tutorials as a basis, and try to help you learn from these. The subjects covered might require knowledge of basic algorithms and data structures. As always, it is fully possible to do everything from home, but we strongly recommend to join us at P15. NCPC is a team competition. We would like you to form teams of three, which work together. It might take some time to get to know each other, but in the end, it is much more fun!. The search engine company FAST has been kind enough to sponsor this event with pizza!
Training session Saturday 29th of April
Time: 2006-04-29 12:00-17:00. This Saturday is the last traning session this spring. As usual, programmers on all skill levels are invited, as we have problems of varying difficulty. The list of problems will be available when the traning begins. If you do not have a team, and know other people in the same situation, know that it is more fun to work together! We will continue holding these trainings next autumns. Training session Saturday 11th of March
Time: 2006-03-11 12:00-17:00. The last training session was a success. 15 teams/individuals played, and everyone seemed to have fun. This means we will continue to arrange these sessions, and the next one is Saturday the 11th of March. There will be a many simple problems this time too, but the number of hard ones will increase. It is still possible to play from home, but for those who are not experienced, we strongly recommend coming to room 324 at P15, as it is very difficult to help with technical questions remotely. The training is suited for students at almost all levels:
We are working on arranging pizza for the session. Hopefully we will find someone to sponsor the event. Changing server addressThe Programming Playground will soon change address to http://feiten.idi.ntnu.no/playground/. Training session Saturday 11th of February
Time: 2006-02-11 12:00-17:00. We will be holding a small training session with ICPC style problems and scoring. You can attend this session by yourself, or on a team of up to three individuals. We will be located in room 324 at P15 on Gløshaugen (Orange "3" next to red dot on this map.). You can come there, or compete from home. The problem set will be fairly simple, so anyone with basic programming skills can compete. The problems will be simpler than in this years NCPC (Norwegian/Nordic championship). Attending such a programming session is a good idea if you are taking courses in programming or algorithms, if you want to compete in "real" contests later, or if you simply enjoy problem solving and programming. When the event opens, it will contain a list of problems.
Note: If you want to compete as a team, register yourself as such
(one account),
with the team name as "realname". It is possible to create
individual accounts later, and retry the problems. If you have any
questions, send an email to During the event, we will be lurking at #progplay at irc.freenode.net. |
