The Role of the IAC
The board of FK-Norway has considered and studied the feed back and advices received from the partners at the FK North-South Forum 2004. It is a genuine desire and intention for the board to comply with the expressed need for more direct South involvement in the work of FK-Norway. The formal and legal framework (being a state entity under the auspicious of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) naturally imposes limitations as to the formal involvement of South representatives in the governing structure of FK.
The IAC is, however, seen as a mechanism and natural tool to counteract the formal restraints of involvement from the South partners. Planning for the largest event in FKs history ever – The FK North-South Forum 2006 – is a natural way of making use of this representative group of people. Since its inception in 2002, representatives from the South have played a significant role in the work of planning the previous two International Advisory Council meeting. This is also the case for the event in 2006.
In order to comply with these intentions the first planning meeting of the IAC took place in, Kenya, at the end of September 2005. The meeting in Nairobi played a significant role in defining the scope and content of The FK North-South Forum 2006 with a special emphasis on The International Advisory Council Meeting.
A second meeting of the IAC was held in The Phillipines in February further elaborating on the programme. A third and last meeting was held in Norway in June, when the IAC also jointly met with the board of FK for a separate secession.
