Seminar on HIV and Migration in Nepal

Close to 60 delegates were present when Hon. Ramesh Lelehak, Minister of Labour and Transport Management opened a seminar on HIV and Migration in Kathmandu, Nepal Friday 27 October.

Grete Thingelstad  31 octubre 2006.

High profile speakers from Nepal, India and Bangladesh shared their experience and analyses with delegates from NGOs, IGOs and public sector of Nepal. Although there is no linear cause and effect relationship between HIV and migration, there is a lateral link. The topics covered included risk behaviour among migrant workers and other mobile populations, the effect on housewives and children and the need for increased awareness and education.

The seminar was organised in cooperation between FK Asia and Nepal Institute of Development Studies, and was the result of joint planning between FK’s partners in India and Nepal.

Hon. Ramesh Lelehak, Minister of Labour and Transport Management, is also a team member in the Peace Negotiations between the Government and the Maoists.
