What is RAMS?

RAMS is an acronym for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety. The letter R has been extended to also cover resilience, and the letter S has been extended to cover both safety and security.

RAMS engineering centers about failures, failure prevention and reduction of the consequences of failure. RAMS engineering has interfaces to all technical disciplines (system, electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, human factors, operations, etc.) and to product assurance. For cost efficiency reasons, RAMS engineering should be performed early in the project phase (starting from the definition phase).
