Glaciations in the Barents Sea (GlaciBar)

GlaciBar (Glaciations in the Barents Sea area) is a Petromaks project, funded by the Norwegian Research Council, det norske oljeselskap, Statoil and BG Norge. The aim of the project is to improve understanding of the Late Cenozoic evolution of the Barents Sea area.

Key objectives of GlaciBar are:

  1. Create a high resolution stratigraphic and palaeo-environmental framework for the Cenozoic in the Barents Sea
  2. Reconstruct the evolution of the Barents Sea- Fennoscandian Ice Sheets by close integration of empirical data and numerical modelling
  3. Improve understanding of glacial erosion and sediment transport beneath a large marine-based ice sheet using empirical data and numerical modelling.

The project started in January 2010 and will run until December 2013.
