About Midtostenforum

Middle East forum is directed towards students at the University of Oslo, at all levels, with the Middle East and North Africa as field of interest. The aim of the forum is to increase the degree of information and knowledge between the different areas of study at the University. We invite people with academic or other experience and knowledge from the Middle East and North-Africa to give lectures on various subjects mainly concerning political and cultural development in the area, day-to-day issues and also historical background. Middle East forum wishes to provide possibilities for discussion and debate and also give the students opportunity to present their academic work and theses. Another priority is to introduce the students to the elevant research institutions and organisations. Meetings are held once a month at the University during the semester, usually the second Thursday of the month. This is a non-profit forum with no entry fee, but we request that participants pay a 10 kr fee for lifelong membership. Information about meetings is distributed by our mailinglist, in the weekly University newspaper Universitas and on posters around campus. The meetings are ususally held in Norwegian except when the lecturer themselves speak in English.

Through this list we can inform each other about lectures, meetings, new books, cultural events etc. As this is a serious information forum for people with academic interests we ask users to show moderation and respect our non-political or other affiliation.
