The Bachelor’s degree programme in Child Welfare should qualify for relational work with children, youth and their families/network.

Child welfare officers do work related to upbringing, care, learning and/or treatment with focus on the total life situation of children and youth. This activity takes place in different social institutions. Child welfare officers work for example within local child welfare services, child welfare institutions, child- and youth-psychiatric institutions and drug abuse institutions. Other examples of work-relevant places are schools, local environments and leisure activities.

Activity critical of the field in relation to own profession and practice is important. The students will acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills based on research, professional development work and empirical knowledge.

Study period abroad
Possible in the work placement period in the third academic year, autumn 2008.

Further education
Child welfare officers may add to their education by taking different Master’s degree programmes at LillehammerUniversityCollege and other universities and university colleges in Norway and abroad.

Teaching and learning methods

The different work methods will be more closely described under each course.

Assessment

The different evaluation methods will be more closely described under each course.

The students must attend the courses in the scheduled order, and each course must be approved before the student may move on in the programme. New and postponed examinations are normally arranged during the following semester at the latest.

At the university college, a student is entitled to sit for an examination in one and the same course three times (Cf.

§ 30. Right to examination registration/admission in REG 2005-06-14 no. 1085). The ordinary examination is normally held in the same semester as when the course is finished. The Director of Academic Affairs may decide that there should be held a new examination with admission for students who did not pass or had lawful excuse for absence at the ordinary examination (cf. § 33. Time and volume).

Students who do not complete or pass the ordinary or the new examination are not entitled to sit for a third examination until the next ordinary examination is held. This also applies for students who had lawful excuse for absence at the ordinary or new examination.
