The programme qualifies students for social work in different areas and different target groups, and the aim is to educate workers who are reflective both when it comes to their own and the users’ role.
The usual occupation would be social worker. Social workers’ main workplace is the local social and child welfare service. Other workplaces could be institutions with different target areas such as drug abuse, psychiatry, somatic hospitals, personnel management and voluntary organisations.
The programme emphasises knowledge of social processes and structures that affect people’s lives. The teaching is based on research, development work and empirical knowledge. The programme promotes reflection on the field, own attitudes and the future professional role.
