Key figures

Adding the internet connection

In the start menu choose Control Panel->Network and Internet Connections, go to Pick a control panel icon and choose network connections. Then go to File->New Connection

Start image for the ISDN internet connection

Then choose: Connect to the Internet, press Next, then press Set up my Connection Manually and press Next again. Press Connect using a Dial-up Modem, and then Next another time.

If you want your ISDN modem to use both phone lines at the same time choose 'All available ISDN lines multi linked'. You can also alter this option later. I choose ISDN channel - ISDNLink-00-Line01 and Next.

You will then be asked to give the connection a name. You may call it whatever you'd like, I'm calling it 'NTNU dial-up'. Press next.

When you're asked about a phone number fill in 73 55 00 00, and press Next.

Where you insert your user name.

Then you have to decide whether other users on your computer, or only your user, will be able to use this internet connection. If you are the only one that is going to use this connection, choose 'My use only'. It doesn't matter what you choose if there's only one user on your computer. I choose 'My use only'.

Next, fill in you user name and password that you use here at NTNU. If you're a student and are unable to remember your user name or password, contact Orakeltjenesten (orakel@ntnu.no, 73 59 15 00.) Employees shall contact their local IT manager. The same applies if you get an error message telling you that the user name or password could not be verified.

Make this the default Internet connection means that this internet connection will be used unless another connection is specified. I choose Yes here.

Finally, choose Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop, press Finish, and you're now done with the connection setup. Next time you're going to use the internet connection, just press the icon on your desktop.

TIP

How to use both phone lines/only one phone line: Right click on the icon for the internet connection and choose Properties. Under Connect using, choose the lines you want to use by checking the checkbox next to the line(s.)
