How to stay below the diskquota
All students at NTNU have a homedirectory on stud's systems. Every student has a quota which, at the moment, has been set to 1000MB. We have a few tools to help you stay below your quota, and this article will explain some of them. You have to be logged onto login.stud.ntnu.no with SSH or our login.stud.ntnu.no to use these tools.
Diskkvote (diskquota)
The command diskkvote gives you information about the size of your quota, and how much of it is in use. If you're outside your quota, you'll be informed about this, and get a list of the files which will probably be deleted. We say probably, because the deleting is automatic and deletes the largest files until your inside your quota again. This means you'll lose files which may or may not be of use to you, so we ask everyone to keep track of this themselves to avoid surprises.
gaupe:~$ diskkvote
--Disk quota for user tosh--
Your quota...............: 512000 KB
Checking directories....: /home/homej/to/tosh
: /local/www.stud.users/tosh

Other good tips
A good and easy way of staying inside the diskquota is deleting attachments when receiving mail. They are often in the form of funny pictures or small videoclips, and deleting them saves you a lot of space in the long run. You rarely need to save everything for later, and if you don't delete mail-attachments you might run out of space sooner than you expect.
