How to change your password
Where to change it
To change your password, you need to use the web interface found at https://bdb.itea.ntnu.no/passord.php. Do not change your password in Windows. This will lead to a password change on the current system, but nowhere else.
If you forget your password
If you have forgotten your password, you must contact the central help desk Orakeltjenesten, or one of your local helpdesks to have it reset. You may not have your password reset by merely calling or sending an email, as a picture id is required. If you can not meet in person, you may call to make other arrangements.
Which systems are affected
When you change your password, you may choose for which systems you want to do this. It is recommended to change the password on all systems at once to avoid confusion. This way, you only have one password to remember. Some local systems at NTNU do not use the password set in the central user database, and therefore have to be set separately. To do this, you must contact the local help desk in your department.
Password requirements
- The password must contain exactly eight (8) characters.
- Norwegian characters are not allowed.
- The password must contain both upper-case letters, lower-case letters and digits.
In addition, the password must be chosen such that it is not easily guessed. Please read the article on bad passwords. To ensure password quality, the System Administrators run continous password cracks on all user accounts. If your password is not well chosen, and thus cracked, your accounts will be closed until you meet at Orakeltjenesten to have it reset.
General password security
- Never give your password to others. This is prohibited through the IT regulations.
- Remember that neither Orakeltjenesten nor the System Administrators will ask you to give up your password over the phone or in an email.
- You should change your password approximataly once per semester.
