VPN - Virtual Private Network

Generally

A VPN client act as a safe tunnel/transport channel between your computer and a VPN concentrator inside the NTNU network. This means that all the traffic from your machine will pass through this concentrator. Because of this it will seem as if your computer actually is the VPN-concentrator, which makes it possible for you to access NTNU's internal resources (like your home catalog and bibsys). The information passing through this concentrator is encrypted, so that it can not be accessed by outsiders monitoring the network.

You kan find more information about the VPN-project on these pages.

Clients

For Windows and Mac there are today only Cisco's VPN client which works, but for Linux you are also able to use VPNC. You can download the Cisco VPN client here (You will need this username/password: vpn/klient). You can also download the Cisco-client from progdist. Using windows, you connect to the shared folder \\progdist.ntnu.no\progdist and download from the catalog campus\VPNklient. The client supports Windows 2000/XP. For more information about VPNC you can read article.

For PocketPC we advise you to use movian. NTNU does not have a licence for this program, but you can buy it or download a trial version from movian.

Instructions for installation and configuration of the VPN-clients are available on Infoweb.
