Introduction to UNIX
If you haven't used Linux/UNIX before, reading an introduction and trying different things can be really smart. There are two ways to get things done in Linux/UNIX. You can either use a graphical interface with point-and-click, just like Windows, or you can use a shell and enter commands.
To use point-and-click in Linux/UNIX your installation needs an active window manager. Most distributions today have a window manager running as the default option. So just log in and choose the program you want to run from the start menu.
To enter commands in a shell, you can either start a shell, or you can use an SSH-client. To use SSH you need the address to the machine you want to log on to. To log on stud.ntnu.no, your home at NTNU's systems, you have to use login.stud.ntnu.no.
