Connecting to your home directory on stud on a unix system

To connect to your home directory from a unix or unix-based system you either need a program called smbclient or have a core that supports smbfs.

smbclient

smbclient is a program that looks and works like a FTP program. With this program you can download and upload files to a shared windows folder. Regular commands are get, ls, put and to get help: ?. To connect to your home directory you need to type:

konsoll #1
smbclient //sambaad.stud.ntnu.no/username -U username -W win-ntnu-no

smbmount

You can also connect to your home directory more permanently. To do this you use the program

konsoll #2
smbmount
You also need to make a local directory where you will place the link.

To connect you need to do the following:

  1. make a directory stud (or whatever name you want) like this: mkdir stud
  2. type:
konsoll #3
smbmount //sambaad.stud.ntnu.no/username /stud/ -o username=username,workgroup=win-ntnu-no
