Storage and publishing offensive materials.

Storage or distribution of offensive material by means of email, the web etc. is illegal. Storage of commercial software.

Limited storage space.

All computer systems have limited storage capacity. Your quota on stud.ntnu.no is 1000 MB. If you have legitimate need of an extended quota, apply for a lager quota. NTNU needs to be strict in enforcing the quotas to avoid full hard drives, as running out of space can render a computer system useless. Once a week all user accounts are checked. If you are using more than 1000 MB, a program will delete large files to get your quota below the limit. You will get a warning by email before files are deleted, and you can check which files will be deleted by using SSH and the command diskkvote .

Limited processing capacity.

To avoid that heavy calculation processes, or similar processes, occupy all of the processing capacity on NTNU you need to follow certain subroutines. Read more.

Network services.

You are not permitted to use computers on stud.ntnu.no to attack other computers. Such activities will be severely punished! All users are requested to keep updated on rudimentary netiquette, and practise this. Chain letters and mass broadcasting of email are strictly prohibited.

Illegal attempts to achieve extended privileges.

It is illegal to obtain or attempt to obtain privileges which you are not entitled to. This includes both access to other users' accounts and various system privileges. You are not allowed to give anyone access to your user account, not even family and close friends. If we discover such a case, your account will be closed.
