Revising and extending the Unified Enterprise Modelling language

Aim

The Unified Enterprise Modelling Language (UEML) is an ongoing effort to develop an intermediate language for modelling enterprises and related domains, such as information systems. Being an intermediate language, the primary aim of UEML is not to propose new modelling constructs or new visual model presentations. Instead, the aim is to integrate existing modelling languages in a structured and cohesive way. In the longer term, the UEML can thus potentially support comparison, consistency checking, update reflection, view synchronisation and, eventually, model-to-model translation across modelling language boundaries.

Background

A first development version of UEML was established in the UEML-TN Thematic Network (2002-2003). A revised and extended version is currently being developed.Work on UEML began in the INTEROP-NoE Network of Excellence (2003-2007). The UEML2 work has three main activities:

  1. determining requirements,
  2. selecting languages to incorporate and
  3. describing the selected modelling constructs
