NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Faculty of Architecture and Fine Art

Faculty of Architecture and Fine Art at NTNU is the only place in Norway that offers university education within the fields of architecture and fine art. NTNU is also the only university in Norway where the practical – esthetical subjects are clearly included as an important part of the university profile. The faculty has mainly emphasized shaping and creative work. This kind of work is often interdisciplinary, and much of the activity borders to other faculties and subject fields.

The architecture education at the faculty is the oldest and largest in Norway. Currently there are 470 students connected to the existing programs. The fine art education has also a long-standing tradition in Trondheim. However, as a university study, fine art was offered for the first time in 1996. Both of these programs lead to a Master’s degree after 5 years. In additional, the faculty has established 2-year Master’s programs within the fields of physical planning, facilities management and urban ecological planning.

Besides research, artistic activity and development work constitute an important and necessary basis for the faculty programme. We demand that our teachers are active artists and/or researchers, and that the results of their activity keep an international level. The faculty is therefore widely engaged in various forms of international collaboration within both art and science.

The faculty’s teaching and professional development work is mainly project oriented and extrovert. Good contact between the faculty, users and audience is essential for the quality of the work of our students, and also for research and artistic activity.
