Objectives: To increase the understanding of the temporal and spatial development in ice ridges in full-scale and model-scale, and to investigate the effect of structure geometry on loads from first-year ice ridges on structures. (More » )
Dynamic ice actions on structures
Objectives: The purpose of this task is to increase the knowledge about the occurrence of ice-induced vibrations on vertical and conical offshore structures. ( More » )
Marine units in ice
Objectives: The purpose of this task is to increase the understanding of structural safety and serviceability of icebreaking vessels in pack-ice. The task is five-fold:
To study dynamics of moored icebreaking ships in pack-ice.
To study dynamics of dynamic positioned (DP) icebreaking ships in pack-ice.
Methods to diminish lateral ice pressure.
Sea ice dynamics and ice management.
Analysis of the ice transport around offshore structures.
Objectives: To increase the understanding of ice ridge gouge processes and its influence on sub sea installations and buried pipelines. The aim is to develop a fully coupled 3D Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) Finite Element (FE) model of ice ridge – soil – pipeline/template interaction. (More » )
Berm breakwaters and ice barriers in cold waters
Objectives: The purpose of this task is to establish improved design criteria for breakwaters/ice barriers in cold waters. (More » )
Jack-ups in ice
Objectives: The purpose of the task is to increase the knowledge of design of jack-ups intended for operations in ice. Theories and algorithms will be implemented in the finite element program USFOS and made available to the industry. ( More » )
Thermal stresses in ice and inhomogeneity
Objectives: The purpose of the task is to characterise level ice thermo-mechanical properties by in-situ stress measurements and examining of spatial variation of properties (strength, temperature, salinity and porosity). A second part will be to provide mechanical analysis and a Finite Element Model (FEM) and then estimate ice actions on structures in landfast ice covers. Finally the influence of inhomogeneous ice has on the size effect will be studied. ( More » )
Collection of ice pilot experiences from sealers
Objectives: The purpose of this task is to collect experiences with sailing in ice from ice pilots and sealers that have operated in Arctic waters for decades. (More » )
Miscellaneous (work shops, printing of books)
Objectives: The purpose of this task is to disseminate results from the project. See: [publications] and news items (front page).
