The mental health of children and youth

In modern society, children and families are exposed to different types of strain. This fact has consequences for the mental health care. The number of children and families seeking help is rising, which again leads to increased demand for scientifically based knowledge and insight into scientific methods. At the same time, there is a demand for efficient services satisfying the needs of the children and families.

The master's programme in the mental health of children and youth aims at people working with children's mental health and is offered to employees in special health services and the first line. The recurring topic is mental issues with children and youth both from an individual and a relational perspective. Family, friends, and network are involved in children's mental problems in the same way as parents or guardians.

The master's programme is a part-time programme offered by the Faculty of Medicine. The programme is adapted for different professions working with children and youth within mental health care and related fields. The programme is also relevant for professionals within local government services (child welfare authorities, educational psychological services, municipal health services). In addition, the programme also has relevance for professional candidates and candidates with a Master's degree who would like specialist training and updating and further development of existing qualifications.
