Space Technology and Navigation

Navigation and positioning are becoming increasingly more significant and necessary parts of our daily lives. Within a few years from now, all mobile phones will contain equipment for finding and, if necessary, transmitting the absolute position of the phone. Navigation equipment in cars is the other major mass market. Navigation by means of satellite systems is predominant, but also other methods such as inertial navigation, are emerging. Due to the mass market, prices on navigation equipment have plummeted, while physical sizes are minimized, and the performances of the devices are significantly improved. Telemetry is important in order to monitor and acquire more knowledge about our physical surroundings, such as the coastal regions. Airplanes and satellites are used to cover large areas in a short period of time. By using different techniques and frequency ranges different parameters can be focused on and analyzed.
