‘Multiphase flow means a flow where two or more phases are present at the same time. Examples are oil and gas in a transport pipe, water droplets and steam in turbines and compressors, bubbles in fluid and gas in different types of processing equipment.
Cases of multiphase flow occur in most industrial flow phenomena, and is therefore very important in a technological perspective.
Calculation methods for this kind of flow are important technological ingredients, and they include classical fluid mechanics, experimental and theoretical/numerical methods involving new turbulence models and CFD analysis.
Carpet and Petronics are two multi-phase activities taking place at NTNU.
