Norway's largest thermal engineering laboratory is at the Institute for Energy and Process Engineering!
With a floor plan of 2000 m2, the laboratory is responsible for the following specializations:
Since its establishment in 1912, the laboratory has worked with the design, building and testing of advanced rigs for Norwegian industry and has gained formidable competence within building and instrumentation of test rigs. Our laboratory is well equipped with a bomb calorimeter, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Thermo-gravimetric Analyzer (TGA), laser speedometers, etc.
We specifically emphasize testing and research of:
Combusion Equipment/Processes
Thermal Engineering Equipment/Processes
The laboratory has access to various ancillary systems with relatively large capacities, such as:
Steam Boiler: 800 kW, 16 bar, super heater at 90 kW
Cold Water: 20 m3 at 6 bar, or water from the cooling tank
Propane: Distributed network
Pressurized Air: 0.5 kg/s at 6 bar
Hot air: Regulated fans which deliver up to 2 kg/s and 400 kW regulated heating coils.
Hot water: District heating
Test rigs span a large area of specializations. They can be grouped as follows:
Various water cooled boilers for combustion of gas, oil and other combustibles.
Granular panel bed filters
Fluidisert bed granuleringstørke
Gasification rigs
Test unit for wood stoves and furnaces
Heat Exchangers
Laboratory results are often use to obtain new knowledge which is often applied towards simulation and design programs for relevant equipment.
