Studies

The Faculty of Arts aims to offer a broad and attractive range of subjects, emphasizing discipline-based as well as inter-disciplinary research and teaching.

The faculty offers nine Bachelor’s programmes and 28 subjects/disciplines, 29 Master’s programmes including three International Master’s programmes (Master of Philosophy), one joint degree in Applied Ethics and a five-year Teacher Training Education programme with an integrated Master’s degree in language studies (Norwegian, English, French or German).

Within the so-called Classical studies (language, history, philosophy), the faculty has a large breadth within research and teaching. Research is the basis for teaching and also the basis for the in-depth study topics offered within the subject areas at all the departments at the faculty.

Some of the study programmes are interdisciplinary programmes consisting of courses from several faculties such as the Bachelor’s programmes in Cultural Heritage and Music Technology. Some of the Bachelor’s programmes have a profession focus which differentiates them from the more traditional subject based Bachelor’s programmes.

The faculty also participates in several study programmes offered at other faculties and also offers a wide range of elective courses for all students at NTNU.

Furthermore, the faculty enjoys a broad activity within the practical aesthetic field, especially within the Department of Music and the Department of Art and Media Studies. Through the Performing Music Studies, Music Technology, Drama/Theatre and the Media Production Studies, our students and lecturers are actively participating in the vibrant culture life in Trondheim.

In addition to the study programmes above, the Faculty also offers one-year study programmes in several subject areas, as well as a wide range of courses with non-restricted admission within most subject areas.

The different study programmes and subjects at the faculty are recognized through a wide diversity of areas and interaction, both internally and in interplay with NTNU’s remainding faculties.
