We have obtained enormous amounts of knowledge about the structure of the genetic material in humans and other organisms. This is of major importance for the improved understanding of biological systems, the progresses within medical diagnostics and the development of modern pharmaceutical, biomedical and biotechnological industry. The development of more advanced methods of analysis enables us to evaluate biological reactions and systems more accurately than we could a few years ago.
This degree programme is an offer for candidates who already have a Bachelor’s Degree which awards the title Bioengineer. Cell and molecular biology is a wide field in rapid development, and this Master’s degree programme will give you a good foundation to develop your skills and specialize within this field. This degree programme can be combined with work.
The work with your master’s thesis can be carried out at the Department of Biology with an academic supervisor from the department, but often the thesis is completely or partly written within other academic environments. The research environment at the Department of Biology has contact with and cooperates with research groups at other research institutions in Norway, and this gives you the opportunity to do parts of your research work externally. When this work is carried out at other institutions, it will normally happen under academic guidance by researchers at the relevant institution. Suggestions for master’s theses are drawn up in consultation with the academic supervisor in charge.
