Advanced Engineering/Master's Degree Programme, 2 years
Materials Technology
Norway is one of the world's largest exporters of several important materials, and materials technology is one of NTNU's and Norwegian industry's priority areas.
The subject area materials technology is comprehensive and covers the production, processing, manufacturing, use and recycling of materials combined with a basic understanding of how the chemical composition and inner structure of the materials govern their characteristics.
The curriculum of this programme in Materials Technology corresponds to the fourth and fifth years of the 5 year long programme. The first year consists of compulsory courses supplemented with elective courses chosen on the basis of the student's background and interests. This will provide comprehensiveness as well as the basis for further specialization within one of six main profiles:
Ceramic Engineering and Functional Materials
Electrochemical Energy Technology
Corrosion and Surface Technology
Materials Development and Processing
Materials Selection and Product Development
Process Metallurgy and Electrolysis
Through projects and the master's thesis in their final year, students will gain relevant and useful experience from fascinating and relevant projects. These projects could be related to environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient production of light metals, environmentally-friendly exploitation of natural gas, efficient oil production, corrosion-technical tasks within the chemical processing industry and the oil industry, fuel cells for the production of clean energy, etc.
Extensive research is conducted at the Department of Materials Technology, which provides opportunities for the students to gain insight into fascinating subject areas related to the main profiles.
After two years of study you will be awarded the title Master of Technology in Materials.
