Catholic Student Group

14 students showed up. Clarisse did some fine reading. The songs and the background music really created a good environment where one could spend praying. There’s only one criticism - the room was too small if we consider the attendance. It was a little bit crowded. I think that if we become too many next time, then we could have the adoration in the main hall instead. This will be discussed internally with the other board members.

The students had the opportunity to meet P. Etienne one by one for Confession while the rest had adoration. Many students did, which pleased P. Dominic. “It shows that they have a healthy spiritual life”, he said.

Sorry for late updates. I’ve been busy (lazy).

So let me tell you a little bit about the meeting that took place on Wednesday 23rd January. It was great! The italian students made great food. It was a nine-course dinner (including 3 different kinds of pizza and 4 kinds of pasta). Check out the link on the right to see the pictures.

I’m glad that many showed up. We were 21 in total, 3 priestes, 2 guests and 16 students. Hopefully everybody had an enoyable evening.

As you know, this was the first time that we experimented with the concept of making food at a student group meeting. I think it was a success. I hope everybody is looking forward to next time. We’re going to have vietnamese food and P. Dominic himself is going to cook! I can’t wait.

Last Wednesday we had the annual meeting in the parish hall. We were 10 students and 2 paters in total. We agreed on the program for spring 2008. Check it out by clicking on “Program Spring 2008″ on the right.

There were some old faces missing. For instance, the polish students weren’t present. But hopefully, we will see them on future meetings.

On the other hand, there were two new students who showed up, Tatiana and Lynda. We wish them a warm welcome and hope that they will join us on future occasions.

The final meeting of 2007 happened on Wednesday 12th of Dec. It was a pizza and movie night, and we watched the animation movie”Happy Feet”. It’s recommended for those who haven’t seen it. It’s a good movie. Good animation, good story and good music.

“Adventaksjonen” is coming to an end. The third Sunday with the church cafe being taken care of by the Youth/Student Group was carried through. Only one more Sunday left. As you know, all of the money goes to the project. On Saturday the 8th we had a stand at the towncenter. We sold springrolls, buns and coffee. Seemed like the people liked the springrolls. One guy bought more than 15 of them! (I don’t have the exact number, I lost count…)

Well, that’s some of the happening in December. I think that the autumn of 2007 has been successfull. Many new students joined the Group. Students from different countries, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Norway and more, contributed and made the student group an enjoyable organization, both socially and spiritually.

Next year, we’re going to introduce a new concept. It’s about students cooking food that represents their countries. I’ll be looking forward to it.

The program for December has been slightly changed. Instead of Adoration on Wednesday Dec. 5th, we’ll have a lecture by P. Etienne. He has agreed to give us yet another lecture. We appreciate it a lot and I’m sure we’ll be looking forward to it. Time and place, 7.00 PM, church of St. Olav.

The Catholic Student Group and the Catholic Youth Group in Trondheim had a meeting yesterday (Wed. Nov. 14th) and talked about the national catholic project “Adventaksjonen”. This year, the money that we’re collecting from this project goes to children who are suffering from war in North Uganda.

A more detailed mail will be sent out to every students on the mailinglist. It will be an interesting and spiritually rewarding experience to work and cooperate with the Youth Group on this important project. Although it’s totally understandable that students are busy in this time of exams.

Next to come, adoration and lecture by Birte Gresseth Wednesday Nov. 21st. Birte Gresseth is a female priest from the Norwegian Church and is going to be our guest. She is going to talk about Advent and remind us about the importance and meaning of this time of year.

It was really nice that so many showed up at the movie night. Hopefully, everyone had a good time.  For those who missed it, we watched a really good movie called The Pianist and had a really interesting discussion afterwards. It was kind of crowded because the sofa wasn’t big enough for everybody, but still, we welcome everyone who wants to join us.

Now, for our next meeting, which will be on Oct. 24th, there will be a lecture by P. Etienne and discussion afterwards. Hopefully, as many as possible can come.

We’re going to have an extra meeting on the coming Wednesday, October 17th. This is part of a suggestion of having more meetings than just twice a month. On this meeting we’re going to watch a movie. We haven’t decided which one yet. But regardless of the movie to be chosen, we’ll be looking forward to the meeting.

The first mass for international students is over. There were a bunch of people who showed up. There were coffee and cookies in the parish hall after mass and we managed to take some pictures. Check out the link “Pictures: English Mass” on the right to have a look at them.
