Education for Sustainable Development

"Learning is the key to accomplishing the changes required for sustainable development."

• "Sustainable development is now widely accepted as a multidimensional concept and political vision." "The World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002 stressed the three dimensions – ecological, economic and social – of sustainable development." (From the invitation to the International Consultation on Education for Sustainable Development, Learning to Change our World, held in Göteborg, Sweden, 4-7 May 2004.)

• "... many of the countries with the worlds best-educated populations are leaving the greatest and most devastating ecological footprints ..." (Thomas Östros, Ministry of Education and Research, Sweden)

This website is made to give easy access to information about some important milestones along the way from the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in 1998 towards a new role of higher education.

The starting point was to try to keep track on information about higher education, but all kinds of information about education in general will be included.

The site needs contributions to be sustainable! Send ideas and comments to webmaster.
