The Teacher Education Programme South-North

The goal of the Teacher Education Programme South-North is to contribute to the strengthening of the teacher education quality in the South as a means of improving basic education and securing "Education for All."

The programme aims to develop mechanisms of interchange for mutual benefit in the field of teacher education and is founded on collaborations between institutions of teacher education in Norway and in the South. The cooperation is based on the South partner’s institutional and pedagogic needs and the Norwegian partner’s competence and capacity to meet these.

Aiming for a long-term programme
The collaborations should be based on activities related to pedagogic research- and development work with focus on studies of framework condition for learning. Another aim for the programme is to acquire sufficient experience in the event of establishing a long-term programme for teacher’s education in the South.

If such a long-term programme is established, a call for application including guidelines will be forwarded directly to relevant Norwegian institutions for teacher education.

The Teacher Eduaction Programme is a pilot programme for the years 2005-2007, and is financed by The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and administrated by SIU.

The total budget frame for the current programme period is NOK 13 million.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The programme will be reviewed in the spring of 2007, and in case of a positive outcome there might be a continuation of the programme from the year 2008. More information about this will be made available on this webpage in the fall of 2007.

The application deadline for the ongoing programme period expired December 1, 2005.
