A Bachelor’s degree in psychology at Lillehammer University College (LUC) does not make the students qualified psychologists, but they get the opportunity of working within psychology in many different areas in society. Students with previous vocational education (e.g. teachers, nurses or economists) may find it useful to combine it with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. This may provide new and important knowledge, new perspectives and possibilities.
The programme provides the students with general knowledge of psychology and possibilities for specialisation in two areas:
Family and developmental psychology
Work and organisational psychology
Study period abroad
The students are recommended to spend a period abroad in the 4th semester, spring 2008.
Further education
LUC does not offer Master’s degree programmes within this field now, but you have the possibility of taking a Master’s degree in psychology at the universities. You may also apply for admission to LUC’s Master’s degree programmes within health and social subjects, social-scientific subjects and the humanities.

SpecialisationLillehammer University College offers two specialisations in the Bachelor’s degree programme.
Lectures: Oral presentation of the course material by the teacher in plenary. The lectures may be concentrated to a few days or be distributed on several weeks. There may be exercises, group discussions etc. in relation to the lectures.
Group teaching: This may be in the form of seminars, a dialogical review of the course material where both the teacher and the group are partly responsible for the learning process, or presentations and group discussions of the students’ written work where the teacher has a particular responsibility as supervisor. The group teaching may be distributed on the whole semester or concentrated to periods.
Project work: Minor written work based on self-elected topic within each module. The students work on this during the whole semester and hand it in at fixed deadlines. The course teacher will specify more closely the formal composition and structure of the work. Approved project work is an examination requirement (portfolio; see form of examination).
Supervision from course teacher: The teacher will supervise students individually or in groups. This will primarily be on written work and exercises.
Supervision from students: Students supervise fellow students. This is part of the project work process.
Web-based teaching: Teaching provided via the Internet. The Classfronter system has been introduced as a teaching platform at LillehammerUniversityCollege, and each semester all students will be offered training in the use of it. There will also be individual supervision/training upon request. The web-based teaching will comprise lectures (notes, pictures, illustrations etc.), supervision from teacher individually and in groups (electronic classroom), discussion forums, knowledge tests that are available on the Internet and several other course-related material available in Classfronter.
AssessmentWritten day examination with objective tests, written day examination with multiple choice test, project work.
