The aim is to give the students the opportunity of developing basic skills in television production, both within the documentary genre and multi-camera production. In other words, they should learn how to use motion pictures to tell stories and be able to develop the story so that it becomes good television. The programme has special emphasis on narrator techniques, but also includes basic knowledge of camera use, sound design and editing.
The programme consists of the following 8 subject areas: recording techniques for single-camera production, editing, narrative techniques and dramaturgy, documentary and television history, multi-camera production, production planning, sound, video and television techniques.
NB! Special application procedure
The applicants must send (in 4 copies) CV, passport photos and an essay directly to Lillehammer University College plus an application to the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS - Samordna opptak). An interview is a part of the admission procedure, and ordinary admission points are therefore not calculated (read more about admission under “Full programme”).

The education is based on an interaction between theory and practice. There will be lectures, seminars and group and individual supervision.
The students will complete a number of productions during the programme, both single- and multi-camera productions. The productions will be made in cooperation with students in the Television Technique programme. The students must be prepared for some compulsory activity outside of normal working hours.
The students are required to participate in the teaching arrangements. All teaching activities in connection with productions are compulsory.
AssessmentEach semester in the programme is completed by an examination:
1. semester: Practical production 1 (for example Lillehammer), evaluated as passed/failed.
2. semester: Individual written home examination with subsequent oral examination. The students should show ability to use professional theoretical concepts and consider these in a historical development and at the same time relate them to practical television work both in connection with own and others' programmes. The examination is evaluated by letter grades. The oral examination may adjust the grade of the home examination and should be a test on the students’ knowledge of the home examination and their professional level.
3. semester: Practical production 2 (for example person in the environment), evaluated as passed/failed.
4. semester: Documentary production and multi-camera production which will be delivered with a written reflection, evaluated as passed/failed. The oral examination may adjust the grade of the Bachelor's thesis.
