The aim of the programme is to educate user-oriented and reflective professionals who are qualified for specialist, clarification and management tasks within the economic and administrative area – in the private sector, in organisations and in the public sector.

The curriculum is prepared within the national frames of Plan for three-year Bachelor’s programme in Business Administration. The courses in the programme are especially adapted for first-year students who come directly from upper secondary school. The programme is interdisciplinary and vocational. The options in the specialisation (profile choice) make it, to a certain degree, possible for the students to adapt their Bachelor's degree to a desirable job.

Study period abroad
The programme can be combined with a study period abroad which is recommended in the 4th and/or 5th semester.

Further education
The education gives entrance qualification for the new Master’s degrees in business administration at NHH, HHB, HIB, HiA, HIST and BI. At Lillehammer University College, Master’s degree programmes in Innovation and Business Development and in European Integration are planned. The Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration qualifies for admission to these Master’s programmes.

Content

The programme amounts to 180 credits in total, distributed on:

  1. Compulsory courses (105 credits)
  2. Profile courses incl. the Bachelor’s thesis (80 credits)
  3. Optional courses (15 credits)

1st semester – introduction to the programme: We will focus on relating the students to the programme and academic work – this is especially important in a first semester. There will be arranged for portfolio assessment/work requirements which should assure tempo and progression. The amount of common teaching with other programmes is limited in order to create a class feeling and a good social/academic environment.

In the first three semesters, a broad basis insight with progression and credit distribution within the courses according to the national plan is established. There will be focus on adapting the first academic year for young students who come directly from upper secondary school. 90 out of the 105 compulsory credits are included in the first three semesters. The last 15 compulsory credits are taken in the 4th semester – Microeconomics and competition strategy. The Bachelor’s thesis is written in the 6th semester (se the table below).

The programme offers 2 profiles (see Specialisation).

Admission requirements

Higher Education Entrance Qualification or prior learning and work experience.

Specialisation

The last three semesters - profiling/specialisation (profile courses of 45 credits + Bachelor's thesis of 15 credits).

The following profiles will probably be offered to the class starting in the autumn of 2006:

  • Candidates who follow the main courses in the programme’s curriculum will get the title Bachelor of Business Administration with profile in economy and market. The students will choose three of the following profile courses: International economics (15 credits), Market analysis in practice (15 credits), Consumers and labelled articles (15 credits), Economic management (15 credits). The profiling is completed by a Bachelor's thesis (15 credits) within the profile.
  • It is also possible to take the Bachelor in Business Administration with profile in management, organisation and personnel theory. The students must choose three of the following profile courses: Work and organisational psychology (15 credits), Personnel and competence management (15 credits), Organisational changes and change management (15 credits), Labour legislation and the collective working life (15 credits). The profiling is completed by a Bachelor's thesis (15 credits) within the profile.

It is also possible to choose a profile consisting of courses from different studies at Lillehammer University College or other university colleges in Norway and abroad. If students choose this variant, the university college cannot guarantee that the chosen courses will be possible to complete within predictable study duration. The students must apply for prior recognition at the Student Information Centre to see if it will be possible and if it can be approved as a profiling.
